You are here: Our Approach Curriculum

Curriculum

Delhi Public School, Bangalore (East) follows the CBSE syllabus. This tried & tested methodology for a child's all-round development with equal emphasis on educational, co-curricular & extra curricular initiatives. This is an attempt to hone the intellectual, social, emotional, physical, spiritual & ethical development.

Kindergarten

Our Innovative child-centric approach

We place great emphasis on Kindergarten & Primary Education believing that the foundation of life is laid in these formative years. Our innovative child-centric approach helps to understand and nurture the child's capacity of concentration, memory, observation, reasoning, judgment & creativity.A system of “Continuous Informal Evaluation”, based on class work, theme-based worksheets and observation sessions is followed. A report card outlines the various aspects of the child's development twice a year. The school follows a non-detention policy in the pre-primary classes.

The Primary & The Secondary Schooling Years

The learning framework is structured to empower the students to a positive and receptive environment which encourages them to share their thoughts and ideas. The Curriculum is based on team work where the teachers are the facilitators for group discussions, projects as well as hands-on activities and experimentation. The Science and Mathematics labs cater to the development of scientific temper. Emphasis is laid more on 'learning by doing' than rote-learning.Project based learning & student exchange programmes that are adhered to, aid and abet better understanding of the subjects.

Extra-Curricular Activities

Energising inherent potential

Music, poetry, art and drama are seen as a medium of expression and their graphic quality is exploited for teaching and learning.

Festivals & Special Events

To create an awareness of India's cultural diversity and national ethos all the important national festivals and special days are celebrated in the school. Teacher's Day, Children's Day, Independence Day, Republic Day, Kannada Rajyotsava Day call for special celebrations. The Teaching and Student community participate with much enthusiasm and gusto.

House System

Students are grouped into four Houses viz. Ganga, Cauvery, Narmada & Godavari to encourage greater participation in sports, cultural and other activities. Belonging to a particular 'House' generates camaraderie, motivation, enthusiasm and enhances a healthy spirit of competition among the students. The allocation of the Houses begins in Class I and House t-shirts form a compulsory part of the attire on Fridays, adding a surge of colour.

Thematic Assemblies

We take note of national and international festivals as well as anniversaries and celebrate them through dance, drama, music, debate, story-telling sessions, painting and other creative endeavors in the form of 'Thematic Assemblies'. These are held on specially assigned days of the week, in time-slots prior to the commencement of regular classes. The enthusiasm of the performers is at par with that of the fellow students gathered to watch the goings-on.

Field Trip

Field Trips are an extension of concepts explored in the classroom. Children learn better when they are provided with a 'hands-on experience'. Field trips are carefully planned, reviewed and monitored by our staff, who also accompanies them in order to ensure the safety of the children.

Excursions

We believe that environment studies are integral to modern education. When facts reveal themselves in the form of experiences, they are etched in our mind permanently. In pursuance of the methodology of learning by doing, the children are exposed to camping and coping with life skills, thus making them self-reliant and adventurous, also giving their adjustment capabilities a boost. The school also has a 'Student exchange programme', when students are sent abroad to learn about diverse customs & cultures.

Sharing and Caring

Wishing to inculcate a habit of 'sharing and caring' the school undertakes various social work projects, many of which form a part of the CBSCE Value Based Education programme. Through this, the children learn to care for the less fortunate. In order to sensitise our children and give them a first hand exposure to the realities that they will encounter in society, visits to orphanages, old age homes, SOS Village, etc are encouraged.
